Where to find live music in Huntsville, AL

The South is the birthplace of several forms of American music. Rock N Roll was born in the South. So was Blues. Country music was created in the South. There are literally hundreds of famous musicians, composers and songwriters who are natives of Alabama. Huntsville happens to be the hub of North Alabama's music scene.

Huntsville, Alabama, located just an hour from Muscle Shoals, the legendary R&B capital of the South and about two hours south of Nashville just off Interstate 65. Due to its proximity to premiere music hot spots, Huntsville has absorbed a lot of the Southern music influence and perhaps created some its own. And there are no better places to experience the Southern music phenomenon than in the parks, night clubs and restaurants in and around Huntsville.

In the summer months, Big Spring International Park in downtown Huntsville is host to "Concerts in the Park." This summertime concert series features an array of music genres performed by some of the best local musicians North Alabama has to offer. The concerts take place every Monday evening at 6 pm from June through August. Anyone who loves music will definitely find the "Concerts in the Park" well worthwhile. Styles of music like orchestral, Pop, Country, Rock, Gospel, R&B and Oldies can be heard. The best part of the "Concerts in the Park" series is that it is free to the public.

Hardcore fans of some of the biggest names in music will certainly love the annual Big Spring Jam held each September in downtown Huntsville. Big Spring Jam is a three-day outdoor music extravaganza featuring top name artists like Dwight Yoakam, The Allman Brothers, The Village People, Kenny Rogers, Sara Evans, Huey Lewis, Jars of Clay and more. Big Spring Jam is relatively affordable costing only $45 for the entire weekend and features over 100 artists on three different stages.

Huntsville's arena, the Von Braun Center (VBC) is host to several large indoor concerts year-round. In the past, fans have converged on the VBC to see such artists as Lynard Skynard, John Tesh, Jamie Johnson, Keith Sweat, Randy Travis and more. The VBC concert hall is a hot spot for the popular Songwriters Series held at least six times a year and features top songwriters from around the country. This concert series features the songwriters of world famous songs and fans get a taste of the writer's takes on the songs that hit number one on the charts.

Some of the best night clubs in Huntsville where live, local bands showcase their original and cover material include Sammy T's Music Hall, Wild Hog Saloon and Club Rush. Churches in Huntsville are famous for hosting some of the best in popular Gospel music concerts too.

Visiting Huntsville would not be complete without sampling some of the city's music venues and soaking in Huntsville's Southern charm through its musical roots and heritage.
