I notice a little girl walking around with a medium sized rock in her tiny fragile hands. She looked up at me with a small soft frown developing on her precious face.

I spoke softly and said " How are you? and what are you holding there?".

She started to walk away without a word, but I could see that she wanted to say something, but she didn't. It was starting to get dark out, so I called out to her once more.

"Where are your parents?", there was still silence.

Finally, after a minute or two I walked in the same direction as her. I asked slowly and gently once more where her parents were.

She spoke in the smallest and sweetest voice I've ever heard " I'm not supposed to talk to strangers. I'm really lost, I can't find the water."

As she looked up at me I said " Why are you looking for the water sweetheart?"

Just as I said that, she realized that she should have stayed quiet. She looked so frighten, I had to keep trying to find out where she lived.

Concerned and worried I spoke again. "My name is Cindy, I live in the city and enjoy visiting the country. Nature walks are my favorite, it's so peaceful and beautiful here. I know you're not supposed to talk to strangers, I promise we will find your family ... okay?"

The air was silent, no answer came from the young girl. I continued to talk anyways. " So what do I call you? You know my name, I have no idea what yours is? If you don't want to tell me your name, that's alright. You could make up a name if you wanted to."

Finally, she smile and said "Star... I want to be called Star!" I really love the stars in the sky." When mommy watches her favorite show on Tuesday nights, I sneak outside and lay under the stars. I bring my pet rock Pony with me too."

"Is that Pony you have in your hand?" I said.

The young girl smiled. "Yes, he loves going for walks just like me. I really like this park, but my mommy's been so busy with work ... since daddy went to heaven." The little girl took a deep breath and said happily. "But that's ok I have Pony to walk with now."

"Do you have an idea about how far you live from here Star?" I said.

She looked up at me " If I could find the water, I can see my house down the beach. Could you help me find the beach Cindy?"

"Sure, Is that why you need to find the water?" I said.

"Yup" she replied

As we walked out towards the beach sign, she started to tell me what happen to her daddy. She explained that he was a trucker and on the night he was taken away, it was snowing really hard. While he
