Oh, NO! Your parrot just flew away and now you need to know how to get your pet parrot out of a tree. You feel as if your heart is about to break and yet, at the same time, you are in a state of panic. You are so afraid you are about to lose your beloved feathered friend.

If this ever happens to you and your tame pet parrot, it is important that you act quickly. At any moment, your parrot could be frightened and fly away into the distance or be attacked by a predator such as a hawk or cat.

While rescuing your bird, it is crucial that you keep the area as calm as possible. You should not scream or make loud noises. Many parrots do not like jumping, bouncing noisy children. Children playing in the area can be politely asked to play somewhere farther away from the tree. If you have high-energy children, you'll want to ask them to go inside or play well away from the parrot. If, however, you have a child that the parrot really loves and who can be calm and still while retrieving your pet, the child can be quite helpful.

If you have taught your parrot to come to you on command, your problem is much easier to handle than if the bird does not respond when called. Yes, parrots can be taught to come when a spoken command is given. However, even a well trained parrot may not respond if it is scared or confused.

If you can possibly reach the parrot, it is the safest and most successful way to get your pet back to safety. If your pet parrot does not come to you, determine if you can reach up to the parrot by getting a stool or step ladder. If you happen to drive a van or SUV, you might even be able to move the vehicle under the tree and climb on top of the roof carefully. Of course, when climbing you must be very careful to avoid falling.

Don't even consider calling the fire department even if you live in a small community where fire fighters would actually respond to this situation. The noise of a fire truck arriving is certain to cause your parrot to fly farther away, possible never to be seen again.

If you determine you just can't reach your pet parrot because it is too high in the tree, you'll want to rush into your house and get the parrot's cage if it is small enough to move or a play stand with which the parrot is familiar and comfortable. It's a good idea to have someone by the tree watching your pet so that if it flies further away, you will know where to locate the bird.

While you are in the house, grab some of your pet parrot's favorite treats. Choose any food
