When it comes to bath products there are millions of options, all promising perfect soft skin and a spa-like experience, if you'll just pay the right amount of money. Even MORE money if you want something organic, hypo-allergenic or chemical-free. Did you know that you can make your own all-natural, organic bath oils that are just as effective, if not better than, these expensive potions? They can smell just as wonderful, be just as beneficial to your skin and body, and bring about the desired results just as effectively. You can even customize them to your own personal skin-care needs and create your own signature scents. Best of all, it's easy!

You will need the following items:

A base oil - This will be used as the "body" or "bulk" of the oil, to which you will add the scented oil of your choice. Depending on what kind you choose, this oil will be responsible for the majority of the skin care benefits. Jojoba is best as it can be kept for the longest amount of time without going rancid or bad. Its chemical make-up is similar to the natural oils the skin produces on its own, it aids sensitive skin, psoriasis, eczema and aging. Grapeseed oil softens and nourishes the skin with natural fatty acids Olive oil stimulates cell rejuvenation and therefore makes skin look younger and fresher, has high amounts of vitamin E and antioxidants and is believed to reduce the signs of aging. All of these are readily available at the grocery store or health food stores.

An essential oil - Keep in mind, that truly natural essential oils cost significantly more than synthetic oils. When it comes to skin care, the synthetic oils may actually cause irritation. Unfortunately it is difficult to tell the difference between the two when purchasing these oils, except in price and smell. The true essential oil is often extremely strong smelling, even unpleasant in it's raw form, as it hasn't been diluted. Your base oil will dilute it and bring about its attractive natural scent. These are some oils to try alone or in combination, until you get the scent and purpose that is right for you. Lavender has a refreshing smell and is thought to aid insomnia and aches as well as cause relaxation. Lemon oil is heals and restores, but BEWARE: when exposed to sunlight within 72 hours it can discolour your skin. Patchouli moisturizes and reduces scarring, tea tree oil is good for healing blemishes, and sandalwood is deeply moisturizing.

You will also need an air tight, sterilized glass jar with a twist off lid and an eye dropper.

Put 1/8th of a cup of your base oil into the jar. With the eyedropper, add one or two drops of your chosen essential oil. Swirl the jar in a circle to mix it, and sniff. Slowly add more of the essential oil drop by drop, until you read the desired strength of scent. That's all there is to it!

Some scented oils that smell nice together are patchouli and ginger, or sandalwood and lavender.

Happy bathing!
