To most soccer fans, predicting the winners of every world cup tournament is relatively easy. Brazil is always a favorite to lift the trophy. They have done so five times already. However, in the FIFA 2010 world cup, it may not be very easy to predict the winner. This is because, this time around, we have quite a number of in form teams.
Going by present form, soccer history and the quality of the players, the teams below are likely to do well at the 2010 FIFA World cup in South Africa.
1) Brazil:
The current Brazil squad is quite different from the one that played in the last world cup in Germany 2006. Players like Luis Fabiano, Maicon, Robinho, Kaka and Andre Santos are young and hungry for glory. Meanwhile, Brazil also has a young coach Dunga - who is eager to write his name in soccer history. Brazil is the current Confederations Cup champion. They may go on to add a sixth world cup to their impressive collection of trophies.
2) Spain:
This country won the European cup and the Spanish soccer team is definitely the best team in Europe at the moment. With the players they have, and the old campaigner Vicente Del Bosque as coach, Spain might go all the war to the world cup final in South Africa.
3) England:
The three lions missed out on the last European cup. However, the England teams seem to have risen from the ashes of defeat. With Fabio Capello in charge, England is once again a force to reckon with in global soccer. The players themselves are really on fire as well. Wayne Rooney cannot seem to stop scoring goals. The defense and the midfield are also doing a great job. All considered, England will do well at the 2010 world cup. They have the players to deliver the goods.
4) France:
You simply cannot write off the French national team. Even without the masters like Zinedine Zidane, Lillian Thruam and Bixente Lizarazu, France has an array of formidable young players like Frank Ribery. There are also gurus like Thierry Henry and Patrice Evra to contend with. Yeah, France will put in a great show at the 2010 world cup finals in South Africa.
5) Argentina:
Now, this is a curios case. It is also a sign that in soccer, one plus one is not always two. Argentina has not qualified for the world cup yet. However, this writer is rooting for the Albiceleste to qualify. If they do get there by virtue of a play off, and if Diego Maradona is kicked out, expect Argentina to shine at the 2010 world cup. It is a long shot but Argentina has the players. They just have the wrong coach and that is why they have struggled to qualify.
Final word:
One of Brazil, England and Spain will definitely play the world cup final in South Africa in July 2010.
