Almost everybody in the world has goals or dreams that they wish to obtain. For many, their goals seem impossible to begin with and there are reasons for that. Just like eating a pie piece by piece, to achieve any goal you must break it down into smaller and easily manageable steps. By doing this, one can make even the grandest of goals possible. Many people fail to achieve their goals for a simple reason: they don't write their goals down. Until a goal is written on paper to make it concrete part of your possible reality, it remains only as an idea in your head.
KNOW YOUR GOAL
Goals aren't attainable as long as they are ideas in your head; they will get lost amongst everything else that is currently swimming around in your brain. It is crucial to identify what you want to achieve because once it is on paper and in pen, you'll most likely never forget it and it becomes something that you are serious about making into reality. Also, by being able to read over what you have written down keeps you focused on the goal and driven to achieve it.
KNOW YOUR PLAN
My military commander once told me The mission that is easier accomplished is the one that has been thought through and planned thoroughly." This saying sums up this step quite nicely. The basic idea is that the mission (your goal) is more difficult to obtain unless you have a plan of action. A goal is easier to achieve when you know what you are going to do. There are a few details to take into consideration when mapping out your goal plan:
A) TIMEFRAME: determine how much time it will take to complete each step and achieve your overall goal
B) MATERIALS: depending on your goal, determine whether you need special equipment, supplies, schooling, etc.
C) COST: create a budget sheet and figure out how much you need financially to achieve your goal
D) REWARDS: what good would achieving your goal be if you didn't celebrate afterwards? By considering your rewards beforehand, you set up an envisioned end to your journey and you'll strive harder to get there
Once you map out each step you're going to take, it becomes an easier matter to just "follow the yellow brick road" and reach your goal.
KNOW THE OBSTACLES AND RISKS
It is a truly rare occurrence when an individual is able to achieve a goal without encountering any obstacles along the way. Obstacles are bound to happen; whether they are natural or unnatural. People have jobs, children, friends, weddings, funerals, it rains, it snows, a tornado or hurricane
