At this point of time, by way of writing this article, I am communicating in the virtual world. In fact all writers like me are doing the same. While you are reading this and the other articles, you too are communicating in the virtual world. So, how do we ensure that this communication is effective?
I guess that higher the clarity in the minds of the readers regarding the message of the writers, the more effective is the communication. Many times it may so happen that writers wish to express something, but readers perceive it as something totally different. Then such communication is ineffective.
Why does this happen? Due to lack of efforts from both - writers & readers.
From a writer's point of view, he must ensure that readers do not get offended by their writings. Now, a writer does not know who his readers are going to be, so obviously he would not know what would be their likes or dislikes. Under the circumstances, a writer must keep one thing in mind - that every human being wants equality in respect. This basic requirement must be met first & foremost, to ensure continuous readers' interest.
For the purpose, a writer should understand the various discriminations that prevail in the world today - they could be due to various factors like gender, financial, religious, geographic, color and some more. Having understood these factors, the writer must ensure that no feelings or sentiments on such grounds are hurt, while readers read their work.
A writer must bear in mind that the thoughts in his mind will flow out from his pen. So, first of all he should ensure that his thoughts are clear. A general respect for humanity in a writer's mind is imperative. Only then his writings will find more positive recipients. My general observation is that most writers whose articles I have read, possess this quality.
Of course, a writer must always endeavour to continue honing his writing skills, by improving upon his general knowledge, awareness, technology, education, economics and above all his language and its various grammatical implications. Even slight grammatical error can drastically alter the meaning, and affect the effectiveness of communication, as indicated above.
As a writer, I am quite raw and am trying to improve in above areas. I request forgiveness from my readers, in case of any errors.
Now from a readers point of view. As a reader, the primary quality required is Patience. It helps in improving Concentration. Yoga exercises and Meditation helps to a large extent. When we concentrate deeply (not hard), we are in a better situation to understand a writer's message. Some writers are slow to start with (basically, bad starters), but the latter part of their articles can be quite interesting. Some writers are excellent starters, but the latter part can be boring.
As readers, we need to help them. We should not criticise them and thereby dent their self-confidence. Rather, we should offer our honest and positive (areas of improvement) feedback, for their overall development. You see, better writers lead to better reading. Readers get higher satisfaction. Why - due to efforts made to understand writers better.
So, for a more effective communication in the virtual world, mutual efforts from both, readers and writers (to understand each other) are required, as briefed above. This is only my personal opinion. I once again apologise for any offences (unintentional) caused to any reader.
