Poetry: Coming home

"Coming Home":

When I used to drive up the turnpike

past the oil refineries

as I got deeper and deeper into traffic,

I used envision what being home

Would soon feel like

as I pictured a sense of calm cover over

me as I rode past the lake and joggers

and picturesque scenery....

that would make me push and trod...

just a little bit more.

I'd also remember what it was like

to go home to where I grew up

with swings in the yard...and that old apple tree,

a park at the end of the block

where I'd spend countless summers

playing...and using my imagination ...my friend.

As I went home and turn the bend

to the street where I now live....

a sense of tranquility hovers around me

and although I have made a new home

in the most beautiful place on earth...

I relive those days

when I would go home, come home, and be home...

a place where my mother's dinner bell would call me...

and life was simple...where I was cared for...with snowy days,

birthday parties, and 8mm film...and gumdrops...

would recapture...

Childhood!
