Dealing with an incompetent cervix

by Amanda Silva

Created on: September 23, 2009

I also suffer from an incompetent cervix! i was 17 years old and 21 weeks along when i called my doctor;

i was really crampy and bleeding one night and i thought something might have been wrong, i tried to sleep and i finally couldn't take it anymore and called my babies father. i was crying because i felt pressure and i knew something was wrong. i could sense something was different the last 2 times i made love to my boyfriend but i didn't want to believe it! when i called my doctor she said everything i was feeling was normal and to just wait until my appointment later on that day! i continuously called her and she finally got me in to get an ultrasound done! i got an external and an internal! when i finally got the external the technicians face dropped. she told me not to move and to wait so she could go talk to my doctor! i could hear the worry in her voice and i was wondering what was going on! i finally walked over to my doctors office and she did another internal exam of me! she became completely shocked herself also and tried to speak as calmly as she could as she explained to me (my mother was there at the time also) that my water of amniotic fluid was descending into my vagina and that i needed to get to a hospital or to woman and infants hospital! we decided the nearest hospital for the safety of my son! when we got there they put me in a wheelchair and gave me a room. the immediately tilted mt bed backwards so the bag might move back into my uterus where it belonged! i was told i had an incompetent cervix and that i will need to stay in the hospital and that there was no chance i was going to leave until i had the baby! so for the next week i was on bed rest and many doctors came to explain what was happening to me! one nurse came in and told me there was no chance my baby was going to live and that i should just try to spend as much time i can with him until he dies! up until that point i was trying to look at everything in a positive way and i was trying to be calm! my water broke when i was exactly 22 weeks and i was in labor from about 9 pm until 1 am and when i had my son he had the sweetest littlest cry i had ever heard! he held the tip of my finger very strongly with the tip of my finger and he continuously kicked me and took many deep breathes! he was a very strong baby and he was very cute! he weighed 1 lb 1 oz and he was 11 inches long! he was the smallest living baby i had ever seen! his breathe became less and less frequents and i
