The Internet has made the world look smaller. Regardless of where you are staying, as long as you have access to the Internet, you she can easily keep in touch with friends from any part of the world via emails; social networking sites like Facebook and Friendster; and online conferencing systems like Skype. You don't have to write a letter and go to the post office unless you really need or want to. As you are using the various features on the Internet to communicate you may feel that the person whom you are communicating with is staying somewhere near you even though he or she may be located thousands of miles away. You can also pay your bills on the Internet, saving you from having to travel to the post office or the shop.
Despite the advantages the Internet has brought to the world, it also has its own share of negativity. With the necessity of getting to the post office to send messages to other people being eradicated, a person no longer has to get up from his or her seat and walk or drive to post the letter. This may cause problem to the person's health especially walking was the person's main exercise before the email technology appeared. When a person got so accustomed to sitting long hours at the computer to read and send emails, he or she may become too lazy to get up from the chair.
Social networking sites make it easier for people to keep in touch with another and do many things together including sharing photos, sending messages, chatting, and play online games without really having to see another physically However, if a person only keeps in touch with his friends on the Internet, he or she may soon have difficulties relating to the real world. Therefore, it is essential for friends to meet and enjoy each other's company at least once a year unless it is really impossible to do so.
Some social sites allowed you to get someone to be your friend even though you have not meet him or her personally before. This can be dangerous especially if the person is up to no good and is not really who he or she claims to be. However, adding strangers to be your friend is only save when every member of the website is expected to add strangers to be his or her friends and the website has good control over each member's activity on it as it is with Yuwie.com.
