After all the delays and bad publicity that engulfed this fight with uncertainties, on September 19 the protagonists of the controversial fight dubbed as Numero Uno finally met up. Former pound-for-pound fighter Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Mexico's Dinamita, Juan Manuel Marquez squared it off inside the ring. This is one of the most anticipated fights of year; yet, one marred with controversies and faced with some criticisms from the boxing community.
In all fairness to the boxers, it was not much of a 'snoozefest', contrary to what was expected. Crisp shots were thrown, clear punches were connected and a legitimate knockdown was delivered. Marquez started strong but so did Floyd. The quickness of Maywather's jabs was still evident despite the long layoff from the ring. Though Marquez was the shorter and the lighter one, his great Mexican heart was still ever radiant urging him to trade blows with the taller guy. His notable fortress-like defense enables him to finish fights with his face literally unscathed. Though Marquez is one of the smartest counterpunchers in boxing, the margin of how Floyd defeated him proved that the craft of the Mexican is not at par with the American. However, Mayweather's defense includes his running style that could bore fight fans if his opponent refuses to engage. He is always on the safe side and always waits for an opening before launching his attacks. Plus, instead of picking a guy his size for his comeback fight, he handpicked Marquez who is from a lower weight division and is 2-inch shorter than him. He may have convincingly outpointed
