2007 NFL draft predictions

by SMM

This week, after much fanfare, the NFL Draft finally arrives. As we get close, I am ready to make my picks for who will end up where. Here is what I think will end up happening, even though it is so unpredictable.

1st-Oakland-Jama rcus Russell: Calvin Johnson is probably the best talent in this draft, but the pick of Russell makes sense. The Raiders seem enamored with him,. and he really could be a franchise QB, so here is my prediction. No matter who they pick, they could be back in this #1 overall slot at the 2008 Draft.

2nd-Detroit-Gaines Adams: I just can't see the Lions picking a WR again, and I don't know that Brady Quinn would be a good fit here either, so I have them picking arguably the best defensive player on the board. This pick will really help to shape how the rest of the first round goes.

3rd-Cleveland-Brady Quinn: This will be another interesting pick. I was debating on who I think the Browns will pick here, Quinn or Adrian Peterson. Barring a major trade, I think whoever does not get picked here will drop a few picks. Quinn is an Ohio native and has said publicly that he wants to go to Cleveland, so I think he is the pick here.

4th-Tampa Bay-Calvin Johnson: If this scenario plays out, I think that the Bucs and Jon Gruden will be very happy. Calvin Johnson has many suitors after him, and someone may trade up into the top 3 to get him, but until that happens, I slot him at #4 to Tampa.

5th-Arizona-Joe Thomas: I think that this pick will fill a major need for the Cardinals. The team loses Leonard Davis on the front line, and Thomas will be a major help, blocking for Leinart and Edgerrin James.

6th-Washington-Amobi Okoye: I am a Redskins fan, but I have no idea what they will do. They have talked about trading up and trading down, but if they stay where they are, I think the 19 year old Okoye makes the most sense. They could plug him into their defense for the next 10 years and be set.

7th-Minnesota-Adrian Peterson: The Vikings already have Chester Taylor, but Peterson is a great talent and will be hard to pass up. I could also see them going after Landry, but I think picking Peterson here makes more sense.

8th-Atlanta-LaRon Landry: Many people are high on Landry and this would be a perfect pick for the Falcons. They will probably place him right into the starting lineup and he could be an impact player as a rookie. If he's on the board, I don't see him getting past the Falcons.

9th-Miami-Leon Hall: If Brady Quinn happens to fall, I envision that he will be picked here, but as of now, Hall is the pick. I see him as a potential shut down corner and he could be a great addition to that defense. Hopefully his sub par performance against Dwayne Jarrett in the Rose Bowl was a fluke.

10th-Houston-Levi Brown: Brown is the 2nd best Offensive Lineman in this draft behind Joe Thomas, and Houston definitely could use help there. David Carr is gone, but Matt Schaub will need someone blocking for him and Brown could be an immediate starter.

These are my top 10 picks. I don't know if I will be right on any or all of these, but as of today, this is how I see it. I can't wait until Saturday to see what really happens.
