Huntsville, Alabama has several marathons each year to not only raise health awareness but raise money for charity as well. In fact, there is a marathon that takes place each month in Huntsville. Most of the marathons are hosted by the Huntsville Track Club. Simply visit their website and look for the HTC Race Calendar link on the left. You will also find many more marathons listed at the website that is not hosted by the Huntsville Track Club.
Mountain Mist 50k Run (January)
Mountain Mist is known as one of Alabama's toughest trail runs. The start of the run begins in front of Monte Sano Lodge and goes a total distance of 31 miles, coming to an end at the back side of Monte Sano Lodge. This is a timed run with three checkpoints. If a participant doesn't reach the check point by a certain time limit they are disqualified from the race. Registration is $50.00 before December and $60.00 during the month of December. Registration fees must be paid in advance. You could choose to pay an extra $10.00 to attend the Pre-Race dinner the night before. After the race, participant gather together for lunch at a local restaurant.
UAH Spring Road Race 10K (March)
Each March runners gather on the University of Alabama (UAH) campus at the University Fitness Center around 1:00pm for registration. The race begins at the fitness center and goes all the way to the Tom Bevill Center. Then runners turn around and run back to the fitness center. Pre-registration fee is $7.00 but students only have to pay $5.00. If you choose to register the day of the race, the registration fee is $10.00 with no student discount. All proceeds go to the Huntsville Dialysis Center.
MaKay Hollow Madness Trail Run (March)
Another marathon in March is atop Monte Sano Mountain. This is a 13.1 mile marathon that starts at 7:00pm on a Saturday and although there isn't a time limit they prefer that runners take no longer than 5 hours. Registration fees vary from year to year but what stays consistant is that there is no registration the day of the race. All fees and forms must be turned in before the day of the race.
Cotton Row Run (May)
Since 1989, the Cotton Row Run has been a tradition for many residents. There are three marathons that occur on this chosen Saturday. The first race starts at 7:00am and is a 10k run. The second race starts at 9:00am and is only a 5k run. The third race is a 1-mile fun run for children and generally starts around 10:00am. Monetary awards are given to qualifying participants
