They say that practice makes perfect, and the only way that you can get better as a writer is to continually write. The great thing about Helium is that you are always being given the opportunity to hone your craft. It doesn't matter if you are going to be a famous author someday, or if you are still learning how to type, you have the chance to continually write, and improve your craft.
Writing for Helium is a little different than writing for most other websites. There aren't any editors, or publishing guidelines in the traditional sense. Sure, there are rules that you have to follow to write for Helium, but you don't have to send your work to an editor, have it read, and then wait a week to hear if the article got published. The system is always up to the writers to also be keen readers and let the best rise to the top.
The best thing about writing for Helium is that we are all aspiring writers, even if we have achieved some level of success. There is nothing that we take for granted, and we are all looking to get better. Whether it be the writers, the fact checkers, or the stewards, everyone is looking for ways to get better. That means that we are always giving, and getting feedback on what we do as writers, and as professionals. This feedback is critical to growth as a writer.
The cool thing about writing for Helium is that you can always ask for help, and get that help relatively quickly. All you have to do is ask, and someone is going to be there to show you where you might have gone wrong on any particular article. If you really are stuck, there are mentors who are willing to work for as long as it takes for a struggling writer to finally figure out what it is that is going to propel them to the next level.
Helium has always struck me as a site where you are really trying to develop your skills first, and then make money second. From everything that I have seen during my time here, Helium prides itself as being the launching pad for authors to achieve bigger and better things. That means that the site, and the community that drives the site is going to do whatever it takes to help you succeed. Whether it be writing, or any other job, it is rare that you will see people so eager to help you achieve personal success, and then encourage you to go out and achieve even bigger dreams.
Writing for Helium is a great experience. What once started as a run of the mill writing gig has turned into something that I enjoy doing. My writing skills have increased dramatically, and my writing career is so much farther ahead of where it would have been had I not discovered Helium. Helium will increase your potential as a writer, and is a great place to learn how to write.
