Shoes, like accessories, are not only there to complete an outfit; they are there to make the wearer feel confident, and comfortable. In some cases, like high heels, the wearer might not feel comfortable, but they may feel more confident and secure while wearing them.
Dress codes, different outfits, and different colors require different shoes to match them. You wouldn't wear bright green thongs to a wedding, nor would you wear stilettos to the gym. Women need shoes to go with the different activities they do during the day and night.
Each shoe can also compliment a certain aspect of the wearer, like make their big feet look smaller, or their small feet look bigger. Different shoe shapes can help, like pointed shoes for small feet, and straps across the front for bigger feet.
Women, though we can be shopaholics, like to actually wear the shoes we buy. Hence, every shoe earns its keep in the wearer's wardrobe by proving itself useful for an occasion, whether it be a trip to the beach, or a first date.
Different situations require different shoes. If women didn't have so many clothes and outfits, they probably wouldn't need so many shoes to go with them. But clothes are necessary in anyone's wardrobe; hence the shoes. Feeling confident about yourself is important, and many women rely on what they are wearing, or what they look like, to boost their self-confidence. And what a better way to look and feel better, by having the perfect pair of shoes to complete the outfit. Shoes are like the glue that sticks the page to the book, or the plug that connects the wires to the power point.
Shoes can be a way to deliver a trend, or complement one. Shoes come in different shapes and sizes, styles and forms FOR people to buy and wear. Shoe trends come and go, and with the constant changing, the wardrobe CAN build up to a large pile.
Another temptation of buying many shoes might be the sales and deals women have a habit of spying. Many stores have '2 for 1' sales, or 'Buy 1 Pair, get the 2nd 1/2 Price!' sales. Being women, we can't resist the deals, and temptations of buying new shoes, and end up buying more than we intend to.
This article is about the general female population, and is not pin-pointing on any woman, or saying that any woman without lots of shoes is wrong/bad/strange/etc in any way.
