Huntsville, Alabama is home to more people with PhD's per square mile than any other city in Alabama. This is no surprise with all of the educational options available to Huntsville residents. Huntsville offers a few universities to choose from as well as community colleges, technical colleges, and private institutions.

University of Alabama in Huntsville

For many students, both local and abroad, this is the number one choice for higher education. The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) is home to a variety of majors in computers, science, political science, philosophy, medical, music, and so much more. Many residents whether they are students or not, enjoy the sporting activities UAH offers, such as the UAH Chargers hockey. This is another popular University for residents and international students. This university is host to many majors such as agriculture, technology, education, music, and many other areas. Calhoun Community College

Many residents choose to begin their college education at Calhoun. Most credits transfer to UAH and Alabama A & M since they are partnered with these universities. In fact, both universities have used Calhoun's facilities at some point to host their own classes. Calhoun is great for getting into the swing of continuing your education before moving on to a higher institution. Many residents will start at Calhoun and transfer to one of the universities because the cost per credit hour is cheaper than the large universities.
