I would like to define the phrase, "The best things in life are free." This is a saying that holds true personally now more than ever. After so much financial fall out, I felt that a rug was pulled from where I comfortably stood. Luckily, one of the best things to happen was the rediscovery of the best things in life.
Blessings are something that people take for granted or completely ignore. A wake up call was given to the world when the most recent American recession hit. There were cutbacks, layoffs, disappointments, and fear worldwide. With less money to spend, people were starting to rethink their priorities. More were letting go of their wants in favor of what they needed and taking more notice of an invaluable resource- each other. People were connecting through sharing stories and ideas; and reestablishing themselves with support from those helping to start or restart careers. Families were cherished for their love and support, as children flew back to the nest. As a result, the blessings of family and good people were revealed.
The ability to use skills, talents, and learn is precious. This highlights another best thing in life that is free- a mind. The beauty of the mind is that it is as individual as the person who uses it; therefore, making one free to be himself or herself. No one can buy creativity, a sense of discovery, or personality. People all over the world can contribute something individually to influence thoughts, societies, and promote tolerance. Examples of this are music, education, and language. It is amazing how they bring the world closer. A good reason to have skilled and talented people. These are things people sometimes take for granted. Imagine life without them. If one is blessed to live long enough, he or she can notice changes in these contributions defined by time and/or technology. More than likely, improvements due to human creativity. The wonderful thought of contributing to the world to make it a better place is satisfying.
Blessings are the best things in life. Everyone has blessings beginning with life. Being able to ride life's ups and downs is one of the best things in life, and it is free. Those things that give life meaning and purpose are what I consider blessings. Thoughts that give a path to hopes, dreams, and potential along with family are those things.
