Poetry: Autumn

"Childhood Autumn Memories"

Essence of gold and rust leaves burning on a Saturday afternoon,

others heaped in a pile ready for a child's "crash" "splash" "boom."

A hearty chill fills the air, with marshmallow roasts gloriously near,

bringing back sweet memories of childhood times we hold so dear.

Sunday afternoon country drives along winding and dipping roads,

to apple orchards luring one and all in Corvairs to family carloads.

Hot cider, horse buggy rides, caramel apples, warm apple pies,

appealing to each and every rugrat, no matter age, mood or size.

Raspberries patch for roaming as the folk music band performs,

pony rides and pumpkins for carving or popcorn that is so warm.

The general store filled daintily with crafts, mums and candles,

attracting both young and old wearing granny boots or sandals.

Wrapped within a cozy shawl, curled near a stone-faced fireplace,

a cup of chocolate, book in hand, peace, serenity only in my space.

Nighttime coming early now, with jolly, holly winter on its merry way,

symbolizing end of favorite season, its wonders each and every day.
