What is relationship?
A relationship can be with anyone, a parent, a sibling, a friend or a lover. All these relationships can be good, bad or questionable.
A good relationship with anyone makes you feel happy. Happy to spend time with that other person, happy to talk to them about things that matter to you. A bad relationship leaves you feeling disheartened, troubled, striving to make things better even though it is better to walk away.
Bad relationships, although we may not be aware of it, always have some element which is wrong from the beginning. This may start off as something small, but as time passes and you try to correct every situation the little things that are wrong will become bigger. Maybe your parent expects you to support them when you are having enough difficulty supporting yourself. Maybe your friend relies on you to constantly bail them out of trouble. Maybe your partner expects you to take the blame for every little thing that goes wrong in your relationship. All of these scenarios and more would begin to take their toll on anyone. You begin to get knocked down constantly. You put the other person before yourself and sooner or later you are lost in the mix. You are stuck in a revolving situation and your self esteem has dropped lower and lower until you barely have a feeling of yourself any longer.
There are many parts to a bad relationship. You may have another that is so dependent upon you, that you in turn become completely dependent on caring for them. Maybe your partner or spouse is verbally abusive to you, they tell you over and over again that things are your fault and you start to believe you just aren't good enough. Again here you will depend upon them after a while, hoping that sometime they will give you some positive feedback and praise you. You always believe it will get better, the truth, it never will.
Bad relationships eventually form a part of you that is dependent upon that other person no matter how bad things maybe. Your self esteem is so low that you just don't have the will to walk away, and are afraid of being without this important companion. If this is the case then they have won! Don't let this happen.
If a relationship is bad leave before it's too late and regain your self esteem!
