Dexter Fulfills Every Dark Fantasy
So why lighten him up?
The first season was so raw... graphic... twisted.
Sociopath for good tracks sociopath for bad and it turns out... dun dun dunnnnn
He's tracking his brother!
What?
Ok, so the first season ended in a hurry and the second season?
Well, it took a couple episodes to get going... but once it got rolling... all is forgiven!
Showtime is replaying all the episodes two at a time on Sundays and I've been hooked ever since I started DVR'ing it out of sheer morbid curiousity.
I heard a few things here and there about the show... but never paid for premium channels before now.
Funny thing... we actually started getting Showtime for 'the Tudors' which has been in the off-season for a while now... but caught up with our Netflix'd 'Weeds' DVDs just in time for the season premiere.
At the time, Dexter wasn't even a twinkle in my eye...
Now... I look forward to late Sunday night when all is quiet in the house. Turn on the TV and activate the DVR... completely filled with wonder about how Dexter will continue evading the police and FBI, while battling his personal demons... and who will he kill next?
At this point in the second season, he's lost his girlfriend, Rita (which started out as a front), is having an affair with his Narcotics Anonymous sponsor, Lila who seems to understand him and matches his convoluted view of reality (to a degree), but is torn between acting normal (also a front), and being himself (which he hasn't exactly figured out (but duh... he's a sociopath, that much is clear :)).
And then a preview for season 4 appeared after last week's episode...
Oh man, I was glued to the TV.
How have the characters changed? Who's still on? Who's being introduced?
And then I discover...
Dexter has a kid?
What?
And he's married to Rita...
What?
So now I'm ruined... well, not really. But I liked Lila. She was super-dark... eff'd up... understood Dexter's 'addiction' and created a safe place for him. This is/was definitely an explosive relationship, but I was entranced by them. She accepted him, dammit! They were to be the next eff'd up power couple!
At this point in the 2nd Season... Dexter is free to open up about all his urges and impulses (metaphorically replacing a heroin addiction with murderous impulses)... with Lila. Not Rita.
Rita doesn't trust Dexter...
Rita's a front...
Rita's not the name of a blonde haired white girl...
In fact, Rita (who is quite perfect, actually) is the embodiment of every 'normal' girlfriend...
