A children's book has to aimed at the child. There are numerous books out there that teach lessons, morals, vrtues, and the like but if these book are written in a too adult view, your child will lose interest and move onto other things that catch their attention and leave you sitting there reading to yourself.A childrens book meant to teach a child certain things should be fun, imaginary, and keep there attention for no longer than 5 minutes.A short story with a lesson is the best. Most babies and toddlers have very short attention spans and it is next to impossible fo them to sit for a very long period of time and concentrate on one subject.
I am a mother of 5 and my youngest being 4 years old.Our favorite thing is too have me start telling or reading a story.Any story,it doesn't matter, and to have him chime in what happens next and why.He loves to "tell" me stories and it keeps
his mind working out different situation and what would be the cause and the effect.Do you know how many different versions of THE THREE BEARS a four year old can come up with? This also lengthens the time that we actuallly spend learning from the story, because he is involved in it,the plot and figuring out the best way for the characters to go through different situations. We also have a book of fairy tales.I don't think I have ever actually read the whole original story to him.It is fun, educational, and keeps his attention for quite a bit of time.It teaches him to use his imagination and how to put those thoughts into words.Though they maynot be said in the exact way we would say them,he is saying them in a way that right now makes sense to him.At his age learnign to pronounce his words right and learning what they mean are are a big deal in his developement. And through this he also learns what lessons he needs to know.
