The old Volkswagen bus pulled slowly up the long gravel driveway. With dust flying all around, they finally reached the side of the ranch with the big kitchen window. "Wow, we're finally here" Al said to Trish as he let his eyes take in the natural beauty that surrounded the old frame house he knew so well. He had been waiting all weekend to see his Grandma. It had been too long since his last visit with her and he wanted to see for himself that she was ok. She seemed so old and frail he constantly worried about her! What would he do if he lost her? Al didn't like to think about that..
As she waited patiently by the window, peering out Molly thought to herself,"Now what are they doing?". She pressed her wrinkled little face against the windowpane trying hard to see. The bright midday sun warmed her cheeks giving her a flushed look. She wondered what was taking them so long to get out of their car. "Maybe they're bringing me something good to eat" she thought, "wouldn't that be nice!" Molly loved to eat. "Hi Grandma!" came the happy sound of her favorite grandson's voice as he bound through the door. "How is the most beautiful grandma in the world doing today?" asked Al.
"Oh my!" her eyes lit up as she watched him walk through the door. He had the biggest brown bag that smelled ever so good. Her smile melted into the biggest grin, as she walked in to his open arms he gave her the most wonderful hug ever! "I've got your favorites grandma, hot tamales and pan dulce" Al said.
"Mmmm" she said sniffing the air appreciatively. She grabbed his face between her little hands and kissed him. Then just as quickly, she grabbed that brown bag and took off for the kitchen yelling over her shoulder "You two just sit right down at that table and I'll set us some plates so we can have us a nice long chat while we eat our lunch together."
"Grandma, what are you going to do if anything happens to you and you can't call for help?" Al asked, his mouth full of tamales, concern written all over his face. "Well I'll be just fine. You know I always am, always will be.. I have my Angel watching over me." And so that's how it went with that conversation.Grandma insisted she's fine, but Al still worried. He thought maybe she made up this fictitious 'Angel' just to keep him happy. He wondered silently as he ate.
Much later after they had filled their bellies with food and gave grandma the update on all their latest doings, Al decided to take Trish for a walk around the property. Grandma
