Growing Away

It seems like yesterday I held you in my arms.
You needed protection from the world and its harms.
And although I knew that you couldn't stay.
I'd have done most anything to keep you
From growing away.

You were a baby for such a short while.
I'd turn my back and you'd grow a mile.
You needed me less with each passing day.
And I'd have done most anything to keep you
From growing away.

Chorus
You'd cry and I'd kiss you.
You'd laugh and I'd smile.
Oh, if only we could turn back if just for awhile.
I'd hold you in my arms just like I used to do.
And protect you from the world and its harms.

Now you're a woman; I can't hold you in my arms.
But you still need protection from the world and its harms.
So I hope you'll always need me in some little way.
'Cause I'd still do most anything to keep you
From growing away.

Chorus
You'd cry and I'd kiss you.
You'd laugh and I'd smile.
Oh, if only we could turn back if just for a while.
I'd hold you in my arms just like I used to do.
And protect you from the world and its harms.
I'd protect you from the world and its harms..
