Poetry: Family struggles

by Shawna Poliziani

Created on: September 18, 2009

Part I

I can smell the sand on the fresh sandy beaches,
I can hear the kids splashing through the waves,
I can even hear you, calling my name.

It all seems far too familiar; the beach, the sand, and the faces.
The joy that time spent together could once bring.
I remember the importance of family vacations.

But now, I cannot go.
This family vacation is no longer for a family.
But for two lovers trapped in lies.

Part II

I can smell the hidden deciet, the schemes, and the secretive plans.
I can hear the conversations behind closed doors.
I can even hear my heart, as it slows down in rhythmn.

Something tells me I should have seen this coming.
Whenever a new life comes ashore, you are the first to jump aboard.
Watch yourself now, don't let the tide take you too far deep.

No, there is no way I can go.
Family vacation is now just an excuse,
An excuse to leave me behind.
