Huntsville, Alabama is a great place to raise a family. However when you are unfamiliar with the area, how do you know which neighborhood is the best to raise your children in? There are many factors to consider when choosing a neighborhood to raising a family. One of these factors include whether there are other children in the neighborhood for your children to socialize with.

Another factor to consider is the schools. Not all schools in Huntsville are the same. Some of the schools have a staff of pleasant people that consider your child's education and safety a number one priority. Others have teachers and administration that are cold and sometimes cruel. These schools consider your child as a name on paper instead of an individual.

Wouldn't it be great to know what the local residents have to say about neighborhoods in the Huntsville area? In this article you will get a glimpse into what some residents think to be the best areas to raise a family.

Sandhurst

The Sandhurst area is wonderful neighborhood located off Green Cove Road in South Huntsville. There are children of all ages throughout the neighborhood. It has a small neighborhood feel which the children love because they won't have to travel far to spend time with friends. The houses range from $90,000 to $130,000 in the original neighborhood, but the neighborhood is expanding with newer houses starting at $180,000. Rental houses range from $600 to $800 a month which is considerably less compared to other areas. The houses may be a bit smaller than houses in other neighborhoods, but the neighborhood makes up for that in being a family oriented area.

The elementary school is Farley which is one of the best schools in Huntsville. The staff is always courteous and helpful. They really do care about each child that comes through their school and welcome parent participation. The middle school is Challenger Middle. The teachers really do care about the students. Although the principal can be quite strict, she has your child's safety as top priority which is more than can be said for other middle school principals in the area. Virgil Grissom High School is the high school Sandhurst is zoned for. There are several bus stops in the neighborhood that pick up children to take to Grissom. In 2007, Grissom received a National School of Excellence award from the US Department of Education and continue to strive for academic excellence.
