It's such a personal choice, religion. It so happens to many you are usually "born" Into one. You have a preset belief that will be passed on by your parents. They can be Jewish, Catholic, New age, Atheists, the list goes on and on. But even when you grow up in a home with out a specific set of beliefs whatever your brought up seeing , hearing, and witnessing becomes your religion.
As we grow and mature, we begin to wonder to question. Maybe it all starts with a feeling, you just have to know what else is out there. The world is so vast so large its difficult to picture one set religion in a world of so many vastly different cultures.
Many times religion IS culture its so much a part of a person or a families identity people cling because they don't know who they would be with out it. They could feel they are dishonoring their parents by adopting a new belief.
I firmly believe the best example for any practicioner of any religion is just that, "Their" Example. How do they conduct their daily lives? What brings them joy? How are they filled spiritually. As you meet people in life we have all run into some who just have this sense of peace and joy about them. Something unexplained so you naturally begin to ask questions, to want to be a student, what philosophy is it that they have. Maybe that is what attracted people to Jesus, to Buddha and the like, People just wanted to be their students.
From all the religious texts I have read and continue to learn from I have yet to find an "enlightened one" Who "pushed"Their religion on others, In fact many did not even speak of a religion it was more teachings a way of life a spiritual and moral code.
All religions have such beauty, history , and meaning. For many its core to who they are. For other's"religion" is a four letter word, and would never associate with one. They would rather be called spiritual, atheist, or nothing at all. Regardless each one of us are on a journey, a journey of self discovery , hopefully of positive growth. For many their religion plays an integral part in that, for others many religions, philosophy's and teaching hold the answers they seek.
We must be careful whatever our beleifs, to hold in the same regards and respect that of others. To understand what the freedom to choose to learn to seek means. And to understand that for the person across from us, next to us down the block, or on the other side of the globe their beliefs may mean the same. We should never impose or push, more like be available with answers should someones curiosity arise regarding whom, what , where or how we worship. Then we share like we would share a meal with an honored guest.
Give them the best of what WE have, but let them make their own conclusions, every human deserves that honor, the right of choice, of growth of seeking out knowledge in their own time.
