A country divided: Political tensions building in America

It has often been said; that a House divided will not stand. The same has been said of a Nation. We need not look too far in our own History to see both to be true. America is a country that is founded upon the dreams of not one, but many (more than one).

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.-That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,..." (from the Declaration of Independence).

The Foundation for this Nation, a Nation of "We the People..." (from the Constitution), is based and was reliant upon the dreams of immigrants, their children, and their children's children, both their individual dreams, and their collective dreams of and for FREEDOM. Tired, often sick, hungry, nearly all poor, they came to our shores to pursue their dreams. They still come today! They are fueled and fired by the feeling, the belief within their hearts and souls, that "this place, this land is the land of opportunity". There was and is no question that their dreams would become reality! Why? Because they were driven, determined, and would not give up. Their children learned their lessons well, and yearned for their chance to excel. By trial and error, all learned the strength of teamwork, the value of compromise allowing the team to be as one. When one stumbled or fell, another offered their hand until they were on their feet and could continue on. They worked, they sacrificed, they bore pain and blister, and bathed in glory for that which they accomplished.

Yes the times change, the waves of immigrants change as well, but there is no shortage of those that believe, that have faith, that have desire, that have determination, that have inspiration, that have the can-do, will-do attitude to get the job done to fulfill their dreams for a better and brighter today and tomorrow. Yes, from their trials and errors, they too learn the exceptional value and strength of teamwork. They learn the strongest foundation must have sound footing.

In any of our houses, if brother fights with brother or sister, if parent continually favors one child over another, teamwork is not sound, footing is lost and a stumble often causes the family to fall. The house will not stand the test of time!

So is it true of a Nation, especially this one, a Nation of "We the People..." founded upon a dream, a dream of many! It is the diversity of our people united in our pursuit of Freedom to fulfill our dreams that makes us so strong. It is our belief in that which is possible, that allows us and our children to dream even grander dreams!

Sometimes in the course of our days, we hear someone say; "those young-ones, that new generation doesn't know how to work nor do they value anything the way we used to", or this one; "that older generation just doesn't get it, they're wasting our time", or a similar version related to; one race vs. another, one political party vs. another, one religious group vs. another. It's so very easy to jump on those band-wagons. That's where the example of the family in a house comes in to play.

Those who fail to learn their lessons well, who don't heed the lessons learned by trial and error, that don't take the time to always be a student of History (especially in your areas of interest), are destined to make the mistakes that could've and would've been avoided.

The new generation has been cast as "the me generation", and that's as wrong as their casting the old generation as "over-the-hill" or "dead generation". Both merely do not see the other for that which they truly are and can still become, assets, valuable and significant assets. With technological advancements happening daily, "the me generation" can multi-task at speeds that make the other generations dizzy. When the "over-the-hill generation" attempts to put on the their brakes and slow them down, "the me generation" gets bored to the point of frustration which results in their behavior and attitude being interpreted as "not caring" (nothing could be further from the truth, they care greatly and are yearning to be "set free"). What "the me generation" fails to see as a result of their near complete indulgence into technology, are lessons in humanity, in humility, in human nature, in compassion that the "over-the hill generation" has learned from a lifetime of trial and error (for human nature remains constant, the heart, mind, and soul of every generation experiences similarities). Wouldn't you love to be spared heartache, misfortune or being a victim of circumstance? The wisdom of our elders is an asset that the younger generations seldom fully grasp until they find themselves the elders of a newer generation. Can you see the value of compromise, of sharing the strengths of each to make a stronger, more focused, more driven, more enlightened team. See the possibilities for an even better and brighter today and tomorrow. Feel the strength of a team united, hear the rhythm of their unified song.

Picture our Nation, a Nation of "We the People..."so united, eager to meet challenges with open minds and hearts, reaching out to their neighbors when they stumble to steady them, and prevent their fall. See the gratitude in the hearts and hands of those that were helped. Are we all not richer?

Picture the diversity of the minds, the talent, of political party in open debate focused on a common goal, exercising their Freedom of Speech to let their voices be heard. Feel the push and pull, experience the joy and satisfaction of a solution found through compromise.

Such a country, a Nation of "We the People..." so united would not be divided nor fail. We would shine in the light of the Sun!

Are political tensions building in America, causing Our Nation to become divided? No, political tensions building in America are not causing Our Nation to become divided. They are causing many of our citizens to lose "the patience" necessary to hear and fully comprehend what is being said, resulting in mis-communication causing their judgement to become impaired, and that causes some of them to make hasty or ill-conceived decisions. Such decisions, ill conceived, are avoidable if we all work to see and understand both sides of a problem, and then, work together to find a meaningful and necessary soultion. Obviously, "a solution" must be found, so communication is in everyone's interest, and therefore in the best interest of our Nation, a Nation of "We the people". Failure to find "a solution" would result in a Nation divided. Would we risk such a division, leading to Our Dream of America, the Dream of Fathers to fail? I think not! We are better than that! "A solution" to each and every problem "must" be found, and can be when "We the People" are heard by our family, our friends, our neighbors, our Nation!

I believe in you, I believe in me, I believe in "We"! The words from a song seem so appropriate; "America's the Land founded on a dream. America's the Land supported by team. America's the Land that will shine as the Sun. America's the Land that is not done." Shall we get to work? Our time is now! Let's heal America!
