At some point in life, most everyone has heard something that inspires them in some way. Whether it is the lyrics to a song or saying from a great philosopher, one can use these expressions as a reminder of what they strive to achieve. Even many young children are told some version of Confucius's quote, "What you do not wish for yourself, do not do to others." Just as with anything in life, different people find inspiration in different things. From a personal perspective there have been many words of wisdom which have helped me through different periods in my life. I would like to take the time to share some of them.

~"The more difficulties one has to encounter, within and without, the more significant and the higher in inspiration his life will be." American clergyman and theologian, Horace Bushnell (1802-1876).~

- For many years I was in an emotionally, verbally, sometimes physically and sexually abusive relationship. The relationship itself, and its long lasting effects cost me more than most people will ever know. I have frequently been told, that I have dealt with more than anyone should ever have too. During some of my most trying moments, it reminded me that everything I was dealing with, and in some cases still do, had/has its own purpose. More importantly, someone, somewhere may learn from my mistakes and not make the same ones.

~"Happy are those who dream dreams and are ready to pay the price to make them come true." Author, Leon J. Suenes.~

- Like everyone else, I too have dreams. Some definitely grander than others. This quote has always reminded me that true happiness is found in having the courage to chase these dreams no matter what the cost.

~"Life is a daring adventure or nothing." Blind American author and lecturer, Helen Keller (1880-1968).~

- These words, though quite simple, speak volumes to me. They remind me that I need to face life head on. That if I sit back and wait, I end up with nothing. They tell me to live each day to its fullest and cherish each moment.

~"What you do speaks so loudly that I cannot hear what you say." American essayist, philosopher and poet, Ralph Waldo Emmerson (1803-1882).~

-Even as a child, I was told that actions speak louder than words. It wasn't until my children were born that I realized the complete truth of those words. Many times over the years I have used this particular quote when the abuse was followed by a meaningless
