Predicting the length of Chelsea's dominance over the English Premiership

Although Chelsea FC have been very successful in recent years, it must be stressed that they have in no way been, and are not considered by English football fans, dominant over the English Premiership.

This has not got anything to do with Chelsea's lack of quality, because an honest football fan can see that they have a star-studded team who actually do produce silverware. What is preventing them from dominating the Premiership, is the era in which this-reformed under Roman Abramovic-Chelsea side is playing in. Considering the recent rise of Manchester City, there are now four other Premiership clubs (Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Man City) who can also boast of having a group of players who are just as good as Chelsea's, if not better. This is a different phenomenon from the days of the 70s/80s and 90s, when it may be argued that Liverpool and Man United actually did "dominate" the top flight of English football, respectively. Liverpool for example, won seven titles during the 80s; and during the 90s Man United won six. During those eras, the two teams were just untouchable. In other words, even when they did not finish the league as winners, they were most definitely everyone's favourites at the beginning of each season. To think otherwise might even have been deemed laughable. Regardless of the money that might be poured into the clubs, nowadays the situation is very different. It is actually unpredictable, as to which way the title will go. Man United winning in the 90s was predictable, even if it did not always happen; but no one club possesses that notoriety in the Premiership of today. It is therefore not a question of whether Chelsea can maintain their dominance, but of whether they can maintain their relative success.

There is no doubt that money has a major influence of transfers. This is important because; the bottom line is that great players make a great team. There are the odd occasions when an inspired team manage to grab a title without a team full of superstars-like Blackburn in the mid-90s, but statistically, the best players end up with the silverware. However! In recent years, it has been noticed that money is not the only thing on a football players mind-particularly those we consider to be global mega stars. Man City famously failed to land Kaka in last years January transfer window, and Ronaldo cried like a baby for years to make his move to Real Madrid; and it did not seem to matter what Man United offered him. Kaka eventually
