Quick energy boost foods

During a long and busy day we can often find ourselves becoming tired and in need of some quick energy. Often we reach for coffee or other stimulant drinks such as energy drinks. These foods do provide some quick energy but at the expense of too many calories, sugar and caffeine. We can eat certain foods during the day that will provide us with quick energy yet be healthy too.

Fruit

Next time you feel your energy dropping reach for a piece of fruit. Not only is fruit refreshing but it provides vital nutrients that your body needs to function at its optimal level. The natural sugar in fruit will give your body a boost and won't drain and crash you later like caffeine tends to do. Fruit is portable and a banana or apple fits in a purse or briefcase. If you have a refrigerator at work you can store berries and other fruit there to eat when you need that extra boost.

Nuts and Seeds

Other great energy foods include nuts and seeds. It is best to buy them plain and not with extra glazes or with salt added because you will get the most nutrition and not unwanted additives. Not only will they give you an energy boost but they can keep you going for a long time due to the protein content. Nuts and seeds also contain hart-healthy Omega 3 fatty acids too. Don't gorge yourself on nuts and seeds because they are high in calories. They make a great energy boost when you don't have time for a full meal and the calorie content can keep you going for longer periods.

Energy Bars/Granola

One of the most portable and easy to use energy food is the granola or energy bar. These bars provide relatively low calories yet can fill you up and keep you going. They are perfect to eat in the car in the morning if you are in a rush or right before a class. Nature Valley makes some very good granola bars as well as Kashi and other producers. Looks for bars with the least amount of ingredients and avoid ones with hydrogenated oils.

Conclusion

Boosting your energy is easy once you know the right foods to eat. Use fruit, nuts and seeds and an occasional energy bar to boost your energy and keep yourself going. Be sure to drink water too as dehydration can leave you feeling tired. Don't rely on coffee and other stimulants to keep yourself going because nature has provided us with the best energy giving foods.
