Valentine's Day is the day to celebrate love for most. Busy couples that rarely find time to appreciate each other do so on this wonderful rose colored day. New love blossoms on Valentine's Day. If you started dating someone around Thanksgiving you are probably pretty juiced about the possibilities of the holiday. Let's not forget the Valentine Cheaters...BEWARE!
I love LOVE. I am a diehard romantic. I love flowers and candles, making love in the shower and all those other things. BUT...and this is a big ol' BUT...we owe it to ourselves to really examine this Valentines Day thing. First, if you are married, I would hope you have given a kiss or a card since last Valentine's Day. If not, then take the holiday to talk about why you don't show your appreciation and affection for one another throughout the year.
All my single ladies...STOP! Get your mind focused. Clear your head of fantasy and Sasha Fierce lyrics. It may not be time to put a ring on it. If you just met or your relationship is volatile, getting a ring will not change things. Do not take this opportunity to force your man into marrying you. Don't send him the Valentine card with Beyonce's song in it. Simply enjoy the evening. Have fun. And let your relationship blossom into whatever it's supposed to become. And please...don't choose V-day to have sex for the first time...that's so corny...and predictable.
If your man wants to celebrate the day before or the day after Valentine's Day...you are not his main girl. You are not the real Valentine. If your man has a fabulous Valentine's Day planned for you but you can't get him on night before...look out...you may not be alone. Men, don't be deceived...you need to check on your girl during this holiday too. The same rules apply above. If she can't do Saturday but she can do Sunday afternoon or Friday night....you aren't her valentine. Sorry. If she spends all day "getting ready" for your date and you can't get her on the phone...she made a play date on Valentine's Day. After going to a movie and lunch with the other guy, she'll spend a nice romantic evening with you.
Guys, watch out for Little Miss Crazy on Valentine's day too. She's been listening to Beyonce all week gearing up for Saturday night. She has rehearsed her speech. You better put a ring on it or ...to the left to the left you go. She's threatening to upgrade you. Actually, she's crazy in love and after she curses you out, spits in your face, and busts the windows out of your car...she'll tell you that it was all for love. If she hits you with some out of left field ultimatum...cut your losses...lace up and get going.
Love is wonderful. Love is solid and lasts forever. When you truly love someone, you always love them...even if you have to leave them. Take Valentine's Day to reflect on what you want out of your relationship. Don't let the greeting card companies, florists, and chocolate factories tell you what your relationships should be. You decide. Use wisdom and don't diminish your self-respect to be with another person. If you are with the wrong person...he/she is taking up the space and keeping your true love from coming into your life.
