Poetry: I used to be

by Robin Loving

Created on: September 16, 2009   Last Updated: November 27, 2011

I used to be, a lot like you
A little of everything.
I've been right with wrong, and wrong with right
And everything in between..

I used to be, a lot like you
The nuts and bolts of a life.
Dismantled now, and thrown into jars
Labeled: "Cancer", "Ex-Dancer", "Ex-Wife".

Too old to join a Rock and Roll band
To young to give up that dream
Too smart to have fun, doing what I did
When my slate was still blank and clean.

I'm giving my soul, just one more chance
My loved-ones, waving good-bye.
I'm watching the sky..I'm watching the plains...
And everything in between

I used to be a lot like you
Wiser, the less I knew.
Curiosity lead to over-load
Until all the fuses blew.

Now I am, all that is left
Of the life,  I was meant to be.
I used to be a lot like you...
And I'll bet you're a lot like me.

I used to be a lot like you...

And I'd bet you're a lot like me.
