The topic of baring yourself in a spa among strangers milling nonchalantly around you can be a source of enlightening humor, plus fun-filled conversations. First time visitors or users of spa get surprised or even shocked at the idea of going nude in a spa (as you really have to go nude in a spa, or else, it won't be worth the experience). However, in other countries where the spa experience is an interesting aspect of their culture, nudity comes naturally just like being in your birthday suite with others around without being extra conscious of it.
Remember, Japan, Korea, China, Sweden, among other countries have the spa culture ingrained in the everyday public lives of their people. Even the ancient Greeks and Romans have public baths, very akin to what we call as the "spa" nowadays. Getting into a spa regularly is a lifestyle choice that is certainly not connected with something kinky or naughty, but a process of cleansing yourself and gaining along the way confidence to face more bravely life's everyday challenges - as nudity as done openly in spas (and other public places) is seen as a leveling factor among enthusiasts and regulars. This is connected with gaining indirect lessons about willingly baring your body literally (in a spa) before others who are naked as well, that gives you comforting ideas that you go through life with equitable share of ups and downs depending on what life throws you. You will certainly learn all these after taking the chance to experience soothing, the sensuous encounter with all your senses at the spa every chance you have. Some of the tips on facing the idea of being nude include:
1) Do your research on which spa you would like to go and visit. Get the facts first about the spa that you are targeting to visit. Assess and learn more about the reputation of the spa, whether it has a good reputation in the community where it is located. This will keep you away from personally intimidating experiences from spas of ill-repute. Spas have a variety of types and services offered; you may consider a family oriented spa where people can bring children. Prepare for the visit by calling first, and take the opportunity to clarify if there is a need for you to go naked while inside the facility.
2) It is a good idea to go to a spa by yourself when it is your first time to visit. The spa can be a great source of thrill and adventure to others. Depending on your personality, you may choose to have a trustworthy company with you (such as a friend or relative), or just simply go alone the first time.
3) Ask for a mini-tour from customer service or from someone in the front office when you reach the spa. It is best to tell the guide that it is your first time to be in their spa, or you're visiting again, so you would certainly appreciate being given some brief walk through on what may be expected. This reduces the surprise factor that you need to manage while you are (still uncomfortable being) naked, unless you are more adventurous than others.
4) You will usually be issued with your own bathrobe, slippers, towels, soap, shampoo, plus conditioner when you pay the fees. Take your time to undress in the locker room, where you will encounter other persons who are in different stages of undress. It is normal to be shy among strange people. Keep your cool, be very aware of your surroundings, and take pleasure in seeing human bodies in their most natural state - you have the same one practically. Watch your reflection on the mirror, and notice how people just go about with their business not really paying much attention to others. Just enjoy the scene, and take a seat if there is one available. Smile and strike a conversation with someone whom you feel comfortable in talking with while inside that part of the spa.
5) Make use of the packets of soap, shampoo and conditioner, by proceeding to start taking a shower, where you will most probably have a first taste of seeing people completely naked under the shower. Take your own sweet time having your shower while in the spa. Usually, facilities for men and women are separate. In some spas, children are allowed entry and should join and be accompanied by an adult of the same gender. Be prepared for this, too.
6) Depending on the spa, or the package you got, you may have a massage, or just spend time in the dry or wet sauna. After you have showered, you may take a quick plunge in the cold pool (if this is available) - you will notice how cold the water could be. Spend a few minutes but not more than the time your body can physically handle. Then proceed to take a very quick plunge in the pool filled with hot water - if this is available - by doing this, you become more acquainted with what goes on in spas, and focus more attention on yourself, and not on the nudity of others around you.
7) You may choose to spend a few minutes in either the dry or wet sauna. You will see people naked inside, with some of them covering parts of their bodies by a small towel. Some will just continue being completely bare as well. Follow whatever practice is more comfortable with you. Don't be pressured about getting naked while in the sauna. Venture into getting into a small talk with some people you feel comfortable about talking with while inside the sauna.
8) Proceed then to the massage, if this is part of the package you have. Some spas will issue another bathrobe or outfits like oversize shorts (for male clients) to be worn during massages. Or you may just choose to continue being naked while being massaged, as this maybe more comfortable for you. Allow the person massaging you to touch your skin all over. Specify which oils, or powder will fit you best, by requesting from the massage person.
Nudity in spas is integral to the experience, actually. Go through the activities involved in the process of the total spa exposure. You will, by then, become less conscious about this nudity aspect as soon as you go about imbibing the whole invigorating experience.
