When it comes to the debate over which option for gaming is superior, console or PC, my answer is a resounding CONSOLE! (I apologize if I woke any sleeping neighbors with that.) I may have a biased opinion on this due to the fact that I was gaming via console before I had a PC. But, if you count my Commodore 64 and the Atari I started with, perhaps you can see that I started with equal gaming ground on both options.
The PC is a great place to play certain games, but there's really only so much that can be done with a mouse and keyboard. There are peripherals that allow better gaming, and even some controllers made specifically to work on PC's now, but unless you can match my 56" high-def plasma with that 17" flat-panel LCD monitor, then there's really no contest.
I have hooked up the computer to the plasma, but the screen resolution and size does not make up for the fact that I still must use a mouse and a keyboard for gameplay. I do enjoy my MMORPGs, but I wish that I could play them on my console. I have never found myself wanting PC versions of my console games. Setting and resetting macros is a pain and when my wireless mouse and keyboard batteries die that's a hassle, too. With my console controllers I can play for days on a single charge of the battery while an arsenal of battery backups are charged and ready.
I currently play on an Xbox 360 (I have also used the Playstation, Nintendo and Sega game systems throughout their long and storied histories) and I love it. I am no good at the first person shooters, but the strategies and puzzles are fun and easy. I'm surprised that there aren't really any MMORPG's on the market for the console gamer. I will always keep my PC upgraded with the best graphics card money can buy until they come out with a way for me to play my favorite MMO's on my console.
Gaming consoles are made for entertainment, and that does not limit them to just gaming. There is a plethora of things you can do with the current gaming systems and developers are constantly finding new and exciting ways of integrating them with the rest of your media. You can listen to music, watch movies, keep up with the news and so much more. With the Xbox 360 I can access the media on my computer and soon will be able to grab the newest toys on the market for physical game play just like the Wii system.
Consoles are also extremely portable and great fun for parties as many people can play either on the same console with party games such as Scene It and Burnout, or by linking consoles for a LAN party to play a little Halo; that cannot be so easily accomplished with a PC. The consoles have a variety of extra gadgets to make playing more fun as well. You can interact with your games and console in a number of ways by purchasing the different controllers (like the guitar for Guitar Hero) and peripherals (such as a camera and memory modules). And if you want to download games to your system the consoles have better transfer speeds and less lag and download failures due to connectivity issues.
So, you ask what the better platform for gaming is? As a gamer I can honestly say without a doubt in my mind that a console far surpasses a PC and will do so indefinitely. I am patiently waiting for the day that PCs and consoles will fall in love, get married and make nifty little hybrid babies that will end debates such as these.
