Your favorite verse in the Bible, and what it means to you

It is extremely hard to pick just one verse; I looked through all the articles and thought, "Oh that one," and then, "Oh, that has got to be the one." Most of the ones mentioned are favorites of mine; but giving more thought to the matter, Psalm 73:25 says it the best. "Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee."

I am one who has always got to "fix" things; I shove my way in and find solutions to everyone's problems. It is almost impossible for me to sit back and let others work things out for themselves or to jump into things without asking for the Lord's help and guidance. Of course this not only gets me into trouble in every day life (because I am usually wrong), it gets me into trouble with the Lord. After many tries to do things my way, I finally decide to pray; unfortunately, by this time things are generally so gummed up that it will require a near miracle to fix.

After more than several years of this behavior, I finally relinquished the "fixing" to the Lord (most of the time). I am so thankful for His patience and love because I am really stiff-necked. Sometimes I would jump in thinking that I had a clear mandate from the Lord (without prayer - I don't think so), and at other times I just thought I was smart enough to figure things out. Of course many Scriptures helped me see that I was not trusting in the Lord but trying to do it all; but when I discovered how helpless I actually was in whatever I did, this Scripture spoke to my heart. The Lord gave me the gift of salvation and I was still trying to take the lead by doing things my own way.

Once I realized that my failures were not only due to lack of trust in the Lord, but a sign of disrespect and rebellion to Him, I was able to place Him and His will first. I started to pray for Him to do the problem solving, the blessing, the healing or whatever else I was interfering with. I was able to step back from the situation and let Him work; sometimes He used me, but most of the time He used others. I began to praise and honor Him by watching Him bless someone and in turn bless others that He had put in the position I was trying to dominate. Every time I want to step in, I think of that verse; I realize that I cannot do anything without His help (which is yet another verse), but because of that realization, I am able to sing, "Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee;" and then begin to draw closer to the Lord I love so much.
