The question of angels' existence has been an intriguing one for many years. Webster states that an angel is a spiritual being superior to human beings both in power and intelligence. After reading this the first question that came to my mind was why are angels always portrayed as bright beautiful beings? A simple analysis of the definition of an angel gives no indication that an angel is this beautiful being that we see in pictures and media. The definition does not state anything about an angels morality. In fact if someone was to say that angels exist that means that they would also have to agree that there are both evil and non-evil angels, otherwise their view is not valid.

Another question I would pose to the believer is what is the difference between an experience with an angel and a paranormal experience? Paranormal experiences happen all the time. These experiences are usually described as visual or auditory happenstances that do not exactly line up with the rules of science. Most of these experiences are directed towards someone who once was alive but was at the time of the paranormal experience dead. So I think it is very important to recognize the differences between paranormal and an experience with an angel. Remember that the angel has to be able to be superior in both intelligence and power.

This is where most believers of angels' existence will say "Well we might not be able to see them but they are around us." This statement pretty much accredits the existence of angels to a simple word called faith. There is nothing wrong with faith as long as your reasons for it are visible both physically and emotionally. If I have faith that Michael Jordan will make the game winning shot, this faith is not imaginary it is based on historical data. I have seen Michael Jordan win games therefore I have faith in him leading his team to victory. If one says I have faith in angels my question would be: What is your historical experiences backing your conclusion?

The truth is this debate will go on for many years to come. I just think that there has to be a discussion on the data that supports the debate. If faith is going to be the answer for the existence of angels, then I do not think that believers in these beings are being fair to themselves or to the people they impress this existence upon.
