Humor: Labor Day

Humor: Labor day

It was a holiday! It was the "last Hurrah" before the beginning of school. Frank and June did not have any children but they were working on it.

Frank loved to call June "Mommy" because she was very close to the day of delivery, October 1, and they could not have been happier.

Since Frank had actually been given Friday through Labor Day off, the couple were taking a three day, two night cruise to the Bahamas, and it was the first cruise for either of them.

This cruise had been arranged by their investment company and there were about twenty in their group. It was to be a combination fun and information experience.

On Saturday evening , the second night, there was to be a talent night. This could be individuals or groups. Groups could have singing ensembles, instruments, or even a skit.
Frank and June's group chose to have a funny skit.

The group got together on Saturday morning and selected a skit . Since June was obviously pregnant they chose one about an expectant couple on a Jumbo Jet. They rehearsed that afternoon and were ready for that night.

When their time came they lined up five chairs on the stage like a row of seats on a plane. The characters were to be the husband and pregnant wife, a stewardess, a co-pilot, and a doctor. It had a hilarious plot.

The skit began, and it seems that the excitement of the rehearsals and anxiety about having a starring role had taken its toll with June and she was feeling some unusual sensations in her stomach area.

As the skit commenced, a recorded jet engine sound was played and then a welcoming announcement was made by the co-pilot and a typical demonstration of emergency procedures was "hammed up" by the Stewardess . The audience roared. Then there were a few seconds of quiet flying followed by the following dialogue:

Pregnant wife: "Honey, I'm having a strange feeling in my stomach!"
Husband :"Probably something you ate!"
Pregnant wife: "No, I think the baby is coming!"

(Audience anticipates the comic situation and laughs.)

Husband: "Naw, it's not due yet!"
Pregnant wife: "Frank, I think I'm having contractions!"
Husband: (Whispers) "I'm not Frank, I'm supposed to be John."
Pregnant wife: "Frank, I'm going to have this baby!"

(Audience laughs broadly)

Husband: (whispers) "That's not in the script, you're supposed to say..".
Pregnant wife: "Frank, get the Steward! Right now!"
Husband: (whispers) "Er, that's supposed to be 'get the Stewardess' "!

(Audience begins to howl with laughter)

Pregnant wife: (yells at top of voice) "I need the ship's doctor!"
Husband: "No, that's 'Is there a doctor on the plane?' "

(Audience is confused, not sure whether to laugh or not).

Pregnant wife: "Frank, you had better stop this ship right now!"
Husband: "Plane, Dear, plane, not ship!"
Pregnant wife: "You had better call for a helicopter! "
Husband: "That's not in the script!"

(a few confused laughs from the audience)

Pregnant wife: "This baby is coming NOW, Frank. It looks like you or somebody on this ship is going to deliver it! I am just going to lie down on this floor. The rest is up to you!"

(audience is totally quiet) (Simulated plane engine is quiet) (Strange look on Husband's face!)

Then, all Hell breaks loose!
