Book reviews: Julia's Hope, by Leisha Kelly

by Kristina Nelson

Author Leisha Kelly's first book, "Julia's Hope", delivers inspirational fiction beautifully. It's possible that her life on 18 tranquil acres made it simple to write this book. After reading this novel, readers will feel as if they could live in Julia's world of hope, and yearn for the country.

After the Samuel Wortham's job his lost and their home repossessed, the Wortham family begins their travels to Mt. Vernon, Illinois. With the promise of a job from his cousin, the four Wortham's start their journey with a bags of their only belongings, and hope.

Although Samuel is embarrassed of failing his family, his loving Christian wife never displays anger or sadness. Through several rides and gratitude from strangers, they make their way each day.

However, the family receives heartbreaking news. With Julia's strong hope, they decide to continue their way to Mt. Vernon in spite of news. During their travels, a storm passes through, forcing the family to seek shelter quickly. In a hurry, they run to an old barn, where they soon locate an abandoned house.

In search for the home owner, the Wortham's meet some peculiar people. Emma Graham, the eighty five year old home owner, agrees to meet them, and honors their request. An amazing journey and relationship begins between her the Wortham's.

Julia Wortham, having learned quite a bit from her Grandma Pearl, finds ways to feed Samual and their two kids, Robert and Sarah. She forages for greens, mushrooms, and anything that will make a tea or coffee. Soon, the hope she believes in, brings them to invite Emma Graham.

The town's people however, do anything possible to run the Wortham's out of town, saying they are robbing Emma Graham. The arrival of her nephew Albert puts everyone on edge. Will he force the Wortham's to leave? Will Emma Graham demand that the Wortham's stay? Will the town's people and neighbors accept the Wortham's? You'll need to read the book to find out. It is an inspirational journey, but not without tribulations.

The saying "everyone has a story" becomes real to life with Julia's hope, captivating the reader. Author Leisha Kelly continues the Wortham Family Series through her next novel, "Emma's Gift" (book 2), and "Katie's Dream" (book 3).
