"A Life Study"
To my monochrome life; in with the rustling leaves you blow
Shafts of orange sunlight anoint your delicate bones
Stripped to the waist; your body proud to show
I begin my craft of translating you into tones
Upon my canvas I give you life forever more
Whilst I fall hopelessly into a black abyss
After hours of stillness you turn to explore
As if seeing me suddenly with eyes of violet mist
Chorus
You are the sumptuous feast of Autumn
A delicious palette of sensual shades
My masterpiece caught in the flood
Colours bleed as my hunger fades
Outside this enchanted space the autumn wind ripples
It playfully announces its presence through the eaves
Our shivering in unison, your awakened nipples
Tear through the air and my ability to breathe
I am alive with new inspiration! I am Picasso, Matisse!
I sweat as I frantically compose, define and render
A breathing life; born of unreached depths of expertise
Hues of gold, earth and India green display your splendour
Chorus
You are the sumptuous feast of Autumn
A delicious palette of sensual shades
My masterpiece caught in the flood
Colours bleed as my hunger fades
I finish, panting, after what feels like a thousand hours
I swim in a pool of intensity I have only dreamed of knowing
Reality bites when you ask for money, a sign of your power
My heartbeat becomes but a murmur at the thought of you going
Now I walk empty streets that seem devoid of colour
My duffle shield battles with the blast
Of icy chill ripe with scents of seasonal fire
That smokes you out from memory that held you fast
Chorus
You are the sumptuous feast of Autumn
A delicious palette of sensual shades
My masterpiece caught in the flood
Colours bleed as my hunger fades
A thousand hours of pleasure; I avidly studied
To be cut dead as coolly as a diseased limb
A soul now torn, wretched and bloodied
A heart now drained; once full to the brim
Tangled and stained blankets on a single bed
I cuddle them for warmth; you watch me from the wall
A knowing promise of the solitary winter ahead
As my life empties of any colour at all
