Coke or Pepsi? The age old question no one can truly answer. Coke came around first, and then Pepsi took the basic idea and made that huge as well. Time shouldn't really be a factor however. The question isn't, who did first? It's, who did it best? The answer, Coca Cola.
The original cola has always been popular, ever since it's conception in 1886. Over one hundred years later, people still can't get enough. Coca Cola has what the essential "soda pop" should. Fizz, sweetness, and thirst quenching ability. No other soda on the market has anything close to what Jon Pemberton created back in Georgia that day. It was truly special, and has remained that way for years.
Coca Cola's marketing campaign has always had a sort of old fashioned sort of appeal. They certainly push regular, original coke more than any of their other products; probably because it still tastes amazing and sells the brand incredibly well. Always has.
Coke also has a great human effect to a lot of it's commercials. Telling people simply to have a coke a put a smile on your face. Simple as that. No celebrities or extras needed to make this phenomenal product sell.
Pepsi does that. Pepsi gets celebrities to sing and dance in elaborate settings to sell their soda. Their commericals are good too, I must admit. They always go for the edgy type of endorser, such as Madonna or Britney Spears. Both of them were kicked off the Pepsi campaigns. Britney was actually kicked off the Pepsi marketing campaign for being seen drinking Coca Cola. If that's not proof, I don't know what is.
And yes, Coca Cola has had celebrity endorsements, but not the same kind or presented the same way. Also, Coca Cola is the most recognizable trademark in the world. It hasn't changed in over one hundred years!
That's why people love Coca Cola to this day, because it hasn't changed. The image hasn't changed, the drink hasn't changed...
Wait, it did once. Back in 1985 the marketing team at Coke was trying to get back some of their stock because Pepsi was doing very well. They tried to be innovative and enhance their already great Coca Cola formula. So they did. In 1985 New Coke was introduced with disastrous results.
People called Coca Cola industries at all hours of the night. They wrote letters, did everything they could. That's why, Coca Cola then returned to their old formula, simply titled, Coca Cola Classic, and it's been that way ever since. It doesn't need touched or tampered with.
Coke and Pepsi will feud forever. This will never change, nor should it. Competition makes products stronger and better. It's just that, with Coca Cola, no improvements need to be made. That should be their next slogan, "Coca Cola, perfect as it is."
