Does wearing a hat cause baldness over time

Wearing a hat continually on your head will most definitely promote baldness. Your scalp becomes airless and begins to lack oxygen and stifles your medulla from breathing. For example, look at what happens when you wear pants that keep rubbing on your thighs or knees, the hair becomes worn off. Let's use a baseball cap for an example as it is quite popular with both genders today. Many teens will not leave the house unless they have their cap on. The cap rubs against the hair follicles, breaks them off, smothers the oxygen and eventually you will begin to see a thinning process in the area where the hat is the tightest.

Something to think about is that if the root in the hair is inside of the hair follicle and the very base is the dermal papilla and you begin to understand that this is where it receives its nourishment, through the blood stream; doesn't it make sense to realize that if you press something against the flow to nourishment, that something is going to die?

I have seen those who have a tendency to inherit baldness, speed up the process as they wear their baseball cap. Ponytails will also do this to both men and women when the hair is pulled tightly from the face, a high breakage will begin to occur usually without the victim realizing it on both sides of the hair in the front. Many times this can be remedied and will grow back when the restricting process from the ponytail ceases.

There are some hats that aren't as bad as others, such as straw hats that allow the hair to breathe through. They have wigs that are full of holes so the hair can breathe through and you can also pull your own hair through the wig to make it more believable when you are in the public. Anything with ventilation will help your scalp and your hair to survive more, even then; should you wear the item continually, you will cause it to rub your scalp and left on for a long enough time, will cause breakage and thinning.

This is one reason why I shudder when I see young babies with continual tight ribbons around their head. They may look cute, but it is closing in on those young hair follicles and could cause problems later on if they are worn long enough.

Wearing a sunbonnet, baseball cap or anything on your head will not hurt your hair if it is only a temporary thing and isn't worn day in and day out. If you work outside, it is a good thing to shield your hair and skin from the sun with a large hat of your choice, just do not wear the hat too tight and take it off once in awhile and you shouldn't have any problems.
