I don't see how creativity could become a dying art. While at times, creativity may falter, I believe as long as there are people, creativity will survive. Hopefully, it will do more than survive. Hopefully, it will thrive.
Creativity materializes in many forms. Visually, creativity is evident in paintings, sculptures, pen and ink drawings and numerous other art forms. But, visual creativity isn't limited to the professionals who have work in museums or offer their creative projects for sale at galleries and elegant art shops. Visual creativity extends to the group of people who meet once a month to create beautiful works of art in the form of quilts. It includes the amateur artist, the crafter sitting at a festival with their handmade creations, and the elementary school art on display at the local library.
Music is a form of creative expression. With all of the songs that have been written and all of the musical arrangements that have been compiled, there's always some creative aspect or interpretation that hasn't been heard yet. The same is true of writing. While artist, musicians, and writers may find inspiration from those who created works before them, they still have a unique voice of creativity within themselves that can bring an entirely new aspect to their field.
There is another level of creativity that most likely will never die. When faced with difficult situations and financial difficulties, creativity is what keeps an individual or a family going. The creativity of a mother can be amazing. She can creatively reinvent clothes worn by one child to fit the needs of another child. She can take worn out clothes and create quilts, pillows, tote bags and much more when there is no money in the budget for buying these items new.
Many mothers have mastered the art of creative cooking when the budget is tight. With the current economic state, I imagine this form of creativity is very much alive right now. Mothers have a way of stretching a roast or a whole chicken into many meals. Mothers are creative when it comes to packing lunches for their family and preparing meals that finicky children will enjoy.
Decorating a home is a creative endeavor that I believe will always exist. People want to create a personal oasis to come home to each evening. Decorating a home is often an ongoing creative endeavor that changes according to the needs of those living there.
I believe it important to encourage children to creatively express themselves. Children have incredible imaginations that adults sometimes try to stifle. Children are ultimately the life sustaining force of creativity. As children mature, it is important to expose them to the works of creativity that currently exist while encouraging them to find their own form of creative expression.
There is no reason why creativity should become a dying art. There will always be challenges to creatively overcome. And, there will always be people who have the desire to express themselves, hopefully in a positive way, through music, writing, drama, and art.
