Determining the safest places on Earth during nuclear wars

Safest place to be during nuclear war

The safest place to be during a nuclear war would be an area where the war is not taking place, but unless you're a member of the government or extremely lucky you're not going to have this information ahead of time. So the next best thing is to prepare ahead of any warning sign. For those of you not in the know, that would be now.

The first thing that needs to be done is putting in a supply of food and water. Surviving the initial blast doesn't do you much good if you end up starving to death. Try to obtain a year's supply. This isn't as hard as it looks. Buy things like rice, beans, wheat and oats in bulk and learn how to cook with them. Things like canned goods and spices can be bought cheaply when on sale. Water storage is time consuming but fairly easy to do and will help with your shelter (more on that later). Also remember to start stocking medical supplies, bathroom necessities, and emergency lighting. It's also a good idea to have books and other forms of entertainment; you may be holed up for awhile and will need the distraction.

As far as shelter goes, the best would be to make an underground shelter. There are many plans and pre-made shelters available on-line. If you have the time and money, this is the best bet. If this does not describe you then the next best option is to pick a room (preferably in the basement) to make into your bomb shelter. Fill containers with water or dirt and stack to the ceiling, you can use other materials but this allows you to have water for your needs and dirt for planting. Your main goal is to put as much material between you and the radiation as feasible. Make sure you get the room as air tight as you can, then place air filters over a window or an opening for ventilation. It would be a good idea to have two ventilation areas on opposite sides for air flow. Make sure the room you choose is big enough to keep all your supplies. You don't want to try gathering everything together when it all goes down.

Although this is by far not a complete list of thing you should have, it will give you the basics and maybe the inclination to seek out more information from the many websites available on this subject.
