Religions are the building blocks of our beliefs, and the comprehension of what god is all about. But the books and documents which every religion is based upon, are written in such a way, that they may be interpreted in more than one way. Simplification is not in the way of human nature. We are always on the search for hidden meanings and interpretations that would suit our cultural way of thinking and living. The religious leaders in most cases would get together and debate the meaning behind the message. Then whatever their decision may be, it would affect the teaching of what God's word is all about.
Religions are important. They play a big role in our lives. They are in a lot of ways a comfort zone to billions of people. Like everything, religions have some positive and some negative effects on us. But if people start using common sense in their religious believes, no one can tell them how they should interpret the word of god. Do you thinK god wants us to be confused? I don't think so. Simplify the message in the books of any religion, and you will get the answer.
Most religions are suppose to be based on a creator who is good, forgiving, loving and possesses the most admiral qualities in our dimension. The basic message of most, is to lead a life that would describe the qualities in the creator himself. That is not hard to understand, is it?
In order for children to have a starting point on the questions they have about God, spirituality, and why life is structured the way it is now, they need a religion to pose their questions upon. Once the basic foundations are laid down, then they can start to search, and think for themselves on what religious beliefs they should follow. If the children grow up not learning anything about God in any religion, then most will grow up without any foundations to build a belief upon. Unfortunately when culture and politics are involved in religious practices, people lose control of their own right to think for themselves.
Religion becomes a control mechanism in the hands of corrupted leaders with a political agenda. People then will be brainwashed to think that committing heinous crimes against one another is acceptable. Also there is the factor of human competition, and just like peer competition, there are religious competitions. Every religious group claims it is the best, and more special than the rest. But the truth is all religions have something special to offer, but no religion is perfect. The imperfection comes from the human element. We are not perfect in any way, so our way of doing things aren't either.
Just remember one thing, we all came to existence from the same creator. If the message from god to all people in any religious group is the same, then God loves them all the same. Only your own actions will make or break you.
