Aveyond-Games of Night is a two dimension RPG, very much similar to the classic RPG Zelda, with small file size (61 MB) and low hardware requirement. Practically anyone can run this game in their computer.
Aveyond-Games of Night is the second part of the series in the Orbs of Magic, and is connected to previous Aveyond games, including freeware Ahriman Prophecy. Although it is part of the series, you can play each game individually. It is even better if you start from Aveyond-Games of Night because of the extensive and easy to follow tutorial that is not present in the previous versions.
The story begins with a young thief, Mel, who had a dream of being pushed off the abyss by a group of vampire. Then she and her friend, Prince Edward of Thais, were assigned by the King of Thais to find the Orb of Light. They were accompanied by Theijal, the vampire Mistress and her husband, the knight Galahad. It is quite amusing to see the couple's interaction. In their journey to find the Orb, they found out that they must find four keys to open the way to the Orb and thus, their great quest began.
The graphic is quite lovely, with cute chibi-characters and chibi-like backgrounds. It is rather girlish though, and perhaps their main consumers are girls. They use MIDI files for the sound effect, but it sounds quite nice with many varieties (each town has its own music) and bird voice as the background when the character walk in the forest.
The control is also very simple and easy to master. You can choose to use keyboard or mouse, or both at the same time. When walking for a long period of time and the area is pretty wide, I use mouse. On narrow area with many twist and I want to avoid the monsters, I use keyboard. With keyboard you only use Esc, Space, and arrow buttons.
Like all RPG, the main task is to explore, do quests, and train. It can be tedious and boring at times, especially when you are exploring and fight the same monsters again and again. I've tried Easy mode and it's way too easy for me. At the beginning the game already give the player a very strong and complete team and is able to explore around without much difficulty.
For those who miss old times RPGs like Zelda, this is a perfect game for you. Those who likes to explore and like uncomplicated games, this is also a good choice. But this game is certainly not for a hardcore gamers and needs high definition image and sounds.
