Today in New York City
The wind blows gently through the streets
A hush falls upon the bustling town
Where scores of angels stand
Watching, protecting, guarding
A lone cry from somewhere in the dark
Reminds us of the terror
The courage, the unstoppable strength
Of the many heroes who tried to help
On the day darkness and evil prevailed
Reaching down, God uplifted the broken
Held them to his heart and cried
In the other hand he comforted survivors
Wrapping them in his blanket of love
Providing a place of shelter and healing
Of hearts that would otherwise die
Today in New York City
The memories of a darker day
Rise to honor the brave, the innocent
