Understanding Sabbath

Romans 14

5 One man esteems one day as better than another, while another man esteems all days alike [sacred]. Let everyone be fully convinced (satisfied) in his own mind. 6 He who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. He also who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God; while he who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God.

Understanding the Sabbath There is so much controversy concerning the Sabbath day. Which day is it? Saturday or Sunday. Should we work on that day or rest? It reminds me of the argument concerning communion. Should we use real wine or grape juice? Should we use real bread or wafers? Should the bread be placed in the hand or in one's mouth? Remember the scripture which says: But the Lord said to Samuel, Look not on his appearance or at the height of his stature, for I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7

I mention this because we as people are too concerned with outward appearances. Another name for this in this context is religious practices. Jesus told the Pharisees:

You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and of the plate, so that the outside may be clean also Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, pretenders (hypocrites)! For you are like tombs that have been whitewashed, which look beautiful on the outside but inside are full of dead men's bones and everything impure. Matthew 23:26, 27

Outside appearances mean nothing in this context. God looks and considers the heart of man. Not worthless practices that make us feel better. Known as "Religion."

To me there is no doubt that the true Sabbath is on Saturday. Any one who studies the Bible should know this. Christians know this. Sunday was adopted by most mainstream faiths because Jesus resurrected on a Sunday and confirmed a new testament, so mainstream Christians give honor to Jesus by having Church on Sundays. But nowhere in the Bible does God say that the Sabbath as it was practiced was switched to Sunday.

There is nothing wrong with setting aside a day of worship to give honor and praise to God whether it is done on a Saturday or a Sunday. And we should not judge one another because of it. Because religiously speaking, the motivation behind each one is wrong.

And if we have to do physical work on that day, whether Saturday or Sunday, it is not a sin. The point is totally missed. I think we should put aside a day
