Poetry: Secret love

by Carole Somerville

Created on: September 13, 2009

His was a secret love

He cradled in his heart

A gift sent from above

From whom he'd never part

His Angel on earth; his taste of bliss

Even though she could never be his

Had they met when he was younger

He wouldn't now feel this hunger

A need for a bond that would never be

Scraps of time; no guarantee

Whatever she had to offer, he would take

Her heart was his, yet his did ache

For the chance to sing about what they'd got

To declare their love from the rooftops

But silence he had promised to give her

In return, he'd have her love forever
