So are you like many others who have a love/hate relationship with tuna fish? Sometimes you really like it, but other times you find it tough to stomach.
You need a way to prepare fail-proof, delicious, crave-inducing spicy tuna fish. And you are in luck. This article will help you learn to prepare spicy tuna fish salad that will quickly become a favorite in your house.
And there is even more good news! This spicy tuna fish salad is relatively low in calories while very high in protein. And its flavor has some kick, which can go a long way in making you feel satisfied after eating this wonderful dish.
This recipe is adapted from one that someone gave me, and it's excellent. You will need to buy StarKist Albacore tuna that is packed in water. For starters, you may want to get two of the 5-ounce cans. Drain the tuna well in a colander before working with it.
Like any tuna salad, you will take this base of tuna fish and then add some ingredients to it to make it your own. With the spicy tuna salad, you will use prepared horseradish, cayenne pepper and black pepper to add the spice to it.
If you have a local store that carries horseradish root, you would be wise to make your own homemade horseradish sauce. The favor of homemade horseradish is just bar none, and it is so easy to make. However, store-bought brands will work as well.
Put your drained tuna fish in a medium-sized mixing bowl. Then add a shake or two of cayenne pepper, a heaping tablespoon of horseradish and a small amount of black pepper.
Here is where you get to call the shots. If you like things really spicy, add a bit more of the cayenne pepper. Be careful as cayenne pepper is super hot. You may want to start out with a small amount. Once you have mixed all ingredients, taste your spicy tuna fish salad. You can always add more if you choose.
Next, you will want to add a few more ingredients. First, add three tablespoons of Hellmann's light mayonnaise. Add this slowly so you can mix it into the tuna fish well as you go. Blend thoroughly.
Finally, add one chopped boiled egg. You can choose to include the egg yolk or not. But you definitely want to include the egg white. And then add a generous tablespoon of sweet pickle relish. The sweet pickle relish compliments the spices well, and it adds a bit of color.
And that's it! You now have a spicy tuna fish salad that you and your family will really dig. It's outstanding, and works well as a stand-alone salad or on a sandwich. If you make as a sandwich, consider doing a melt with light Swiss cheese.
Once you start preparing your spicy tuna fish salad this way, you will not think of tuna as drab again. Your love-hate relationship will be turned around, and it will strictly be a love affair.
