Feng shui is the ancient Chinese art of creating harmony and attracting luck by working with the environment.
This article focuses on your bathroom and gives tips on how you might invite health and happiness into your life through making a few simple changes to your bathroom.
Feng Shui in the Bathroom
There is no room too small, when it comes to thinking about feng shui. It can actually be surprising how following a few basic rules in the bathroom can help bring more luck and prosperity into the home.
It is recommended, through feng shui, that the bathroom should be as far away as possible from the main entrance of the home. It should not be at the centre of the house either. In feng shui this is considered as negative from the financial and business point of view of the home's occupants. This is because the centre of the house should not be associated with waste or loss. Instead, it should if possible be open and spacious so the positive energy or ch'i flows openly and freely.
However, it is not always possible to change the location of your rooms. Therefore, it's always a good idea to keep the bathroom door closed!
One problem with this area of the house is that the positive energy, or ch'i, you are trying to encourage in other rooms can be so easily and quickly lost, once you flush the loo. Some people, therefore, place a full length mirror on the outside of the bathroom door and this helps bounce ch'i back into the other rooms of the house. In fact, some people say that such tactics actually make the bathroom disappear, in feng shui terms, altogether!
Position of the toilet and Feng Shui
Within the room itself, the actual position of the toilet is important. It shouldn't really be directly visible to anyone entering the room and if it is, it might be a good idea to place a screen between the toilet and the door.
Keep the toilet as far away from the door as possible and try not to have both toilet and bath alongside each other.
Bathroom, Mirrors and Feng Shui
Whereas mirrors are not recommended for the bedroom, this is not so when it comes to bathrooms. Especially if your bathroom is small, mirrors on the wall or on cabinet doors will help create a more spacious feeling.
Keep the room light and airy. Good feng shui colours for the bathroom are creams, pale blues and light greys.
Dripping taps should be attended to immediately as this is thought to encourage financial waste.
Then last but not least: indeed one of the most important feng-shui rules of the bathroom, is to ALWAYS keep the toilet lid and the toilet door firmly closed.
